Paris Saint-Germain delivered a statement performance at the Parc des Princes, dismantling arch-rivals Marseille 5-0 to move back to the summit of Ligue 1. Under the guidance of Luis Enrique, the Parisians showcased a level of intensity and precision that Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille simply could not match.
The onslaught began in the 12th minute. Following sustained pressure, Ousmane Dembélé found space in the center of the box and rifled a powerful right-footed shot past Gerónimo Rulli. Despite an early yellow card for Vitinha, PSG remained in total control. In the 37th minute, Dembélé struck again, finishing a brilliant team move with a shot from a difficult angle on the right to make it 2-0 before the break.
The second half was even more one-sided. Désiré Doué nearly made it three early on, hitting the post, but the third goal eventually arrived in the 66th minute when Marseille defender Facundo Medina inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. Just a minute later, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia effectively ended the contest, ghosting into the right side of the box to fire home a fourth.
The final blow came from the bench. In the 74th minute, Lee Kang-in entered the fray as a substitute for Bradley Barcola and scored with his very first touch—a sharp left-footed strike that sent the home crowd into raptures. Marseille’s evening went from bad to worse as frustration boiled over, resulting in late yellow cards for Emerson and others as they struggled to cope with PSG’s 5-0 superiority.
What It Means: With this victory, PSG move to 51 points, overtaking Lens to lead Ligue 1 by two points. Marseille remain in third place with 39 points, but this heavy defeat leaves them trailing the leaders by 12 points with 13 games remaining.
