Borussia Dortmund kept their title aspirations alive with a gritty 2-1 victory over VfL Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena. In a match defined by defensive resilience and a frantic finale, BVB showed the clinical edge required to stay in the hunt for the Meisterschale.
The visitors took the lead in the 34th minute. Julian Brandt, who has been the creative heartbeat of the team this season, found space in the box to steer a precise effort past Kamil Grabara after a clever layoff from Maximilian Beier. Dortmund looked comfortable for much of the first half, but the Wolves emerged with renewed energy after the break.
Wolfsburg found their equalizer in the 68th minute through an unlikely source. Defender Konstantinos Koulierakis rose highest during a corner scramble to power a header home, sparking hopes of an upset for the home supporters. For a period, it looked as though Dortmund would drop crucial points as Wolfsburg's low block frustrated Julian Sahin’s men.
However, the breakthrough finally came in the 87th minute. Substitute Karim Adeyemi beat his marker on the flank and delivered a low, fizzing cross that Serhou Guirassy tapped in at the near post. It was Guirassy’s 14th goal of the campaign and arguably his most important.
What It Means: This win moves Dortmund to 48 points, putting immense pressure on Bayern Munich (51 points) ahead of their Sunday clash. Wolfsburg remain in 14th place, hovering dangerously close to the relegation playoff spot.
